Rectifiers (diodes) are used for demodulation of amplitude-modulated signal in the detectors, the AM signal.
The simplest diode AM detector
Demodulator amplitude modulated high-frequency signal in the simplest case is a half-wave rectifier on one diode with the output of the filter capacitor and resistor.
