Detection of high-frequency signal

Rectifiers (diodes) are used for demodulation of amplitude-modulated signal in the detectors, the AM signal.

   The simplest diode AM detector

Demodulator amplitude modulated high-frequency signal in the simplest case is a half-wave rectifier on one diode with the output of the filter capacitor and resistor. Value nominal capacitance and resistance is chosen to optimally smooth the high frequency carrier half-cycles, exceeding the amplitude of cycles of a load higher than the voltage on the capacitor is charged, with a decrease in the amplitude of cycles of a load lower than the voltage on the capacitor is discharged, thereby restoring the envelope modulation (low frequency) signal. When the demodulation signal audio frequency (20-20000 Hz) usually used silicon or germanium diode and capacitor about 10-47 nF.
